Kurupt is a rapper from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania who came up in the ‘90s. As a teenager, he moved to California. At 19, he signed to Death Row Records. During his time at the label, Kurupt formed the hip hop duo Tha Dogg Pound with fellow Death Row signee Daz Dillinger. Together, they contributed to the infamous East Coast-West Coast battles with their song “New York, New York.” After the bi-coastal rap beef led to the demise of Tupac Shakur, Death Row collapsed. Dr Dre left Death Row first, and Kurupt was the second artist to leave. After he left Death Row, Kurupt signed with A&M Records. In 1998, Kurupt released his debut solo album. One of the best songs on the album is “It’s A Set Up.”
