Black Sheep was a hip hop duo from New York who primarily recorded in the ’90s.  The duo featured two members: rapper Dres and DJ/Producer Mista Lawnge.   Dres was from Queens and Mista Lawnge was from Brooklyn, but they met in Sanford, North Carolina as teenagers. After high school, their lives went in different directions.  Dres returned to New York and mixed it up in the streets, Mista Lawnge returned to New York and dove right into music.  Years later, after Dres was released from prison, he was working in Manhattan, and he ran into Mista Lawnge.  Soon after, their reunion turned into a hip hop duo.

Early on, Black Sheep spent a lot of time with hip hop group De La Soul.  They frequented studio sessions, assisted with production, and made their first official appearance as Black Sheep on De La Soul’s album De La Soul Is Dead (1991).  Later that year, Black Sheep released their debut album, Wolves In Sheeps Clothing.  By 1992, their album was certified gold.  The lead single on the album was “Flavor Of The Month.”  Alongside “The Choice Is Yours,” and “Strobelite Honey” “Flavor Of The Month” cemented Wolves In Sheeps Clothing as Black Sheep’s best album.
