Source Material: Meiko Kaji – “Urami Bushi”

Meiko Kaji is a Japanese actress and singer who starred in several films and television shows during the ’60s and the ’70s.  She also recorded theme songs for some of her projects, and she released her own music outside of film.  In 1972, she starred in the Japanese film Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion.  Later, the film became the first installment in the Female Convict Scorpion series.  Kaji sang the theme song “Urami Bushi.”  The series, much like the song, was a local success.  However, after Quentin Tarantino featured “Urami Bushi” in Kill Bill (2003), Kaji’s record was exposed to a global audience.
