Mary Saxton is a soul singer from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. In 1966, she recorded her debut single, “Is It Better To Live Or Die/Losing Control,” for Pace Records. She released two additional records, “Ask Any Girl/Do The Jerk” for the same Edmonton-based label. Saxton quickly became a fixture within the Edmonton music scene. First, she sang with Daisy Hill Puppy Farm, a local band featuring Mo Boyer and Mavis McCauley, two ex-members of the Southbound Freeway band. Then, she sang with Rising Sun, a band that included members from more local bands like The Nomads, The Rebels, The Lords, and Southbound Freeway. In 1968, she released “Sad Eyes,” her first solo record in two years and also her first top 40 hit. One year later, the success of her single led to the release of her debut album, Sad Eyes.
