Paul Mauriat was a French orchestra leader from Marseille, Bouches-du-Rhône, France. As a child, Mauriat studied classical music, but as a teenager, he transitioned to jazz and popular music. At 17, he formed his own orchestra, and he toured throughout concert calls in Europe during the ’40s. In 1957, he released his debut EP, Paul Mauriat. Two years later, he began recording under the name Paul Mauriat et Son Orchestre. He recorded under that name until 1965, then he founded Le Grand Orchestre De Paul Mauriat and stuck with it for 28 years. In 1968, Mauriat scored a #1 hit with his version of André Popp’s, “L’Amour Est Bleu” (Love Is Blue).” In 1971, he released Tombe La Neige, one of five albums he released that year.
