Yo-Yo is a rapper from South Central, Los Angeles, California who rose to prominence in the ’90s. She started rhyming in the ’80s, but she primarily appeared in local talent shows. Everything changed when T-Bone, a member of the LA-based hip hop group Da Lench Mob, introduced Yo-Yo to Ice Cube. Ice Cube and Yo-Yo started collaborating on music, and Ice Cube became her mentor. Yo-Yo’s first appearance on a record was on Ice Cube’s song “It’s A Man’s World” (1990). In 1991, she released her debut album, Make Way for the Motherlode. “You Can’t Play With My Yo-Yo” Ft. Ice Cube was one of the lead singles on her album. It was an anthem for women, and it was Yo-Yo’s most notable song.
