Jackie Mittoo was a Jamaican songwriter, keyboardist, and musical director who recorded for three decades. In the ’60s, he was the musical director at the esteemed Studio One label, and Mittoo was a member of several bands. Studio One is one of the most influential reggae labels in Jamaica, and Mittoo played with bands like The Sheiks, The Soul Brothers, The Soul Vendors, Sound Dimension, and The Skalites. Mittoo was well-known for his contributions to The Skalites because they were the biggest band he was apart of. After The Skalites broke up, Mittoo started his solo career. In 1971, he released his fifth album, Macka Fat. “Ghetto Organ” is one of the last songs on the album, but it’s also one of his biggest records.
