Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) is a rapper, songwriter, and actor from Brooklyn, New York who debuted in the ’90s. At the beginning of his rap career, he formed two different teams. First, he formed the group UTD (Urban Thermo Dynamics) with his brother and a high school friend. A few years later, Mos Def went solo, and he started working with De La Soul and Da Bush Babees. In the late ’90s, Mos Def signed to Rawkus Records, and he formed the hip hop duo Black Star with rapper Talib Kweli. In 1999, Mos Def released his debut album, Black on Both Sides. The album features standout records, like “Ms. Fat Booty” and “Mathematics,” but my favorite song is “Hip Hop.”
