Mel and Tim were a soul duo from Holly Springs, Mississppi. The duo featured singers Mel Hardin and Tim McPherson. At the beginning of their career, they relocated twice. First, they went to St. Louis, Missouri. Then, they relocated to Chicago. In Chicago, their career began to pick up. Mel and Tim were discovered by singer, songwriter, and producer Gene Chandler. And in 1969, Mel’s mother signed the duo to her label Bamboo Records. Later that year, they released their debut album, Good Guys Only Win In The Movies. “Backfield In Motion” was one of the featured singles on the album, and it became one of their most notable records.
