Ice-T is a rapper, actor, and producer from Los Angeles, California who rose to prominence in the ’80s and the ’90s. In the ’80s, after a career in the streets, Ice-T decided to pursue a music career. Initially, he performed as a DJ throughout Los Angeles. In the mid-80s, he transitioned to rhyming. In 1986, he released “6 ‘N The Mornin,” and it became one of the turning points in his career. One year later, he signed a record deal with Sire Records. He followed with two albums: Rhyme Pays (1987) and The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech…Just Watch What You Say (1988). “You Played Yourself” was one of the lead singles on his second album.
