Prince Phillip Mitchell is a singer, songwriter, and producer from Louisville, Kentucky. His career spanned over three decades. In the ’60s, he bounced between four different groups: The Checkmates, The Cash Registers, The Moonlighters, and The Bean Brothers. In 1969, he moved to Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and he started songwriting for the Muscle Shoals Sound label. One of the first songs he wrote was “It Hurts So Good.” It was initially recorded by Katie Love in 1971, but Millie Jackson took the song to new heights in 1973. In the ’70s, Mitchell continued writing music for Jackson, he produced for Archie Bell and the Drells, and he wrote songs for Bobby Womack and Candi Station. In 1978, Mitchell released his debut album, Make It Good. “Star In The Ghetto” is one of the highlights.
