The Floaters were a soul group from Detroit, Michigan who recorded in the ’70s and the ’80s. The group featured five members: James Mitchell, Paul Mitchell, Larry Cunningham, Charles Clark, and Ralph Mitchell. In 1977, they released their debut album, Floaters. The biggest song on the album was “Float On.” This song means a lot to me for two reasons. First, when I was a teenager, this was one of the first songs I discovered on my own through e-digging. Second, and when I played it for my Pops (Sa’id), he taught me more about “Float On,” and he liked it just as much as me.
