Source Material: Bola Johnson – “Lagos Sisi”

Bola Johnson was a Nigerian bandleader and trumpeter who recorded in the ’60s and the ’70s.   He started his career as a maraca player in Eric Akaeze’s band.  Eric Akaeze was a highlife musician who led a house band at a local Nigerian hotel called EasyLife Hotel.  The band performed at the hotel, and they also released a few singles periodically.  In 1968, Bola Johnson started his own band called Bola Johnson and His Easy Life Top Beats.  In 1973, they released “Lagos Sisi.”  “Lagos Sisi” was a standalone single, and it was also a great example of Johnson’s talent.
