Sample Flips: Rah Digga – “What They Call Me” (Prod. By Pete Rock)

Rah Digga is a rapper from Newark, New Jersey who came up in the ’90s and the 2000s.  She started her ascension when she joined the New Jersey based group The Outsidaz.  Their first big appearance was on “Cowboys,” a record from The Fugees second album, The Score.  Later, Digga met Q-Tip, and he introduced her to Busta Rhymes.  After they met, Digga became the only woman to join Flipmode Squad.  Flipmode Squad was a hip hop collective led by Busta Rhymes that enjoyed a successful run in the ’90s.  As the collective found more success, Digga continued to standout.  In 2000, she released her debut solo album, Dirty Harriet.  The album was led by her hit single, “Tight.”  I think “What They Call Me” is a deep cut that’s also worth listening to.
