Mac Dre was a rapper from Oakland, California who rhymed in the ’80s, ’90s, and the 2000s. In 1989, while he was still in high school, Dre released his debut EP, Young Black Brotha. The EP featured his debut single, “Too Hard for the Fuckin’ Radio,” which became one of his most notable songs. Four years later, Dre released his debut album, Young Black Brotha. Both of his earlier projects bear the same name, but they are two different bodies of work. Young Black Brotha features “California Livin.'” I like “California Livin'” because it shows how he was able to establish his own unique sound within the broader California rap scene.
