Headie One is a rapper from Tottenham, London, England. He grew up on a housing estate in Tottenham called Broadwater Farm (a.k.a. The Farm). It is one of the most infamous estates in London for its culture, history of rioting, and its crime. Headie started rhyming as a teenager, but after his third prison stint, he took music more seriously. In the early 2010s, he started releasing mixtapes under the name Headz.
In 2014, he released his debut mixtape, Headz or Tails. Two years later, he changed his name to Headie One, and he joined forces with RV, a fellow rapper from The Farm. They created OFB (Original Farm Boys), a rap collective based at The Farm, and they started releasing mixtapes together in 2016. By 2017, Headie was a rising star in the underground UK drill scene. In 2018, things took off.
It all started with his song “Know Better.” The single was a direct response to an incident that occurred a few days prior. Before he released “Know Better,” Headie was confronted by rival gang members at Bedforshire University, and videos of the incident were uploaded to Snapchat and YouTube. He replied to the videos with his song “Know Better.” The song went viral, and his stardom in London accelerated.
