Ofege was a band from Lagos, Nigeria who recorded in the ’70s. The band featured five members: Melvin Noks (lead vocals/rhythm guitar), Paul Alade (bass guitar), Mike Meme (drums), Felix Ijeh (rhythm/tenor guitar), and Dapo Olumide (keyboard). They were only 13 years old when they formed Ofege. Their sound was a blend of afrobeat, funk, and rock. In 1973, when they were 16, Ofege released their debut album, Try and Love. Three years later, they followed with their second album, The Last of the Origins. “Amayo” is one of the standout tracks from their second album. By the end of their run in the ’70s, they were a force in Nigeria.
