Dean Fraser is a Jamaican saxophonist from Kingston, Jamaica. At 12 years old, Fraser started playing the clarinet. At 15, he switched to the saxophone. In his 20s, he started his first band, The Sonny Bradshaw 7. In 1978, he released his debut album, Black Horn Man. One year later, he released his second album, Pure Horn. Locally, both albums were moderately successful, but more importantly, Fraser’s catalog as a saxophonist continued to grow. When I discovered Fraser, “Ethiopian Love Song,” was one of the first songs I heard. It’s one of the last songs on his second album, but I think it’s one of his best.
