Illogic is a rapper from Columbus, Ohio who started rhyming in the late ’90s.  In the beginning of his career, he mainly participated in freestyle battles.  In 1999, he released his debut album, Unforeseen Shadows.  The entire album was produced by Blueprint, a fellow rapper and a producer from Columbus, Ohio.  This was significant because it marked the beginning of a longstanding friendship and collaboration between the two.  After the release of Unforeseen Shadows, Blueprint produced Illogic’s next two albums, and their profiles collectively grew on the underground hip hop circuit.  “Hate in a Puddle” is one of the stronger deep cuts on Unforeseen Shadows, and it’s a good representation of their collaborative efforts.
