Giannis Spanos was a Greek composer who recorded in the ’60s and ’70s. At 17, he moved to Athens and studied piano at The National Odeum. In the early ’60s, he moved to Paris. While there, he was mainly a piano accompanist. He worked with artists like, Juliette Gréco, Béatrice Arnac, and Serge Gainsbourg. After a few years, he moved back to Greece. Fresh off his success in Paris, and back in his home country, Spanos played a major role in shaping the Greek New Wave music era. The era started in the mid-’60s and was largely by Spanos compositions. During this time, Spanos also added film soundtracks to his repertoire. In 1971, he scored the Greek film Ekeino to Kalokairi. “Monaxia” is one of the best tracks on the soundtrack.
