Lillian Offitt was a blues singer from Gallatin, Tennessee. Early in her career, she aspired to be a gospel singer. While she was studying at Middle Tennessee State University, she visited Nashboro Records. The owner of Nashboro Records, Ernie Young, suggested she record secular music instead. In 1957, she released her debut single, “Miss You So.” It was a hit! It peaked at #8 on the Billboard R&B chart, and Offitt moved to Chicago shortly after to build on her success. While in Chicago, she found work in local nightclubs, but she was unable to match her chart success. Still, “Miss You So” is a great song in a limited catalog.
