O.V. Wright was a blues musician from Lenow, Tennessee who was highly regarded amongst his peers. Wright started singing in the church as a kid, and by high school, he was the lead singer of the gospel group The Sunset Travelers. After The Sunset Travelers, he led The Harmony Echoes, and that’s when his career changed forever. As a singer for The Harmony Echoes, Wright (along with fellow Echoes member James Carr), was discovered by Roosevelt Jamison, a songwriter and manager from Mississippi. Jamison wrote “That’s How Strong My Love Is,” and it launched Wright’s secular career.
