Amara Touré was an African musician from Conakry, Guinea who recorded in the ’50s, ’60s, and ’70s. In 1958, Touré started his career as a member of the Senegalese band Le Star Band de Dakar. Over the next few years, the band became an international powerhouse for Afro-Cuban music. In the early ’70s, Touré started recording his own music. First, he began with another Senegalese band The Black and White Ensemble, and then he recorded with a Gabonese band The Orchestra Massako. “Salamouti” is one of the singles he recorded with The Orchestra Massako. Touré continued to record up until he went missing in the ’80s, but thankfully, his music has been preserved.
