Source Material: Marie Rottrová – “Time Is A Rogue”

Marie Rottrová is a singer and TV personality from the Czech Republic.   Technically, she was born (1941) and raised in Ostrava, Moravia.   In 1939, during WWII, The Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia was established by Nazi Germany.  Prior to the war, Ostrava, Moravia was a historical city and a region which was a Czechoslovak territory.   After an uprising in 1945, the Czechoslovak Republic was restored.  As of today, that city and region belongs to the Czech Republic.  Yeah, I know, I wonder what sort of impact her childhood had on her music as well.

Rottrová came from a musical background, her father was an organist, and her mother was a singer.  As a child, Rottrová played the piano.  In 1968, she started recording music with a funk band from her country called The Flamingo Group.  She sang alongside the group well into the ’70s, and “Time Is A Rogue” is featured on her Rhythm & Romance (1978) album.  In her country, Rottrová was dubbed “the lady of soul,” and I can see why.  I think it’s beautiful that she was able to make music like this after her childhood.
