Taeko Ohnuki is a singer and songwriter from Suginami, Tokyo, Japan. In 1973, she formed Sugar Babe, a band featuring Japanese musicians Tatsuro Yamashita and Kunio Muramatsu. After struggling to find success at home, the group broke up three years later. In 1976, Ohnuki released her debut album, Grey Skies. In 1977, she released her second album, Sunshower. At the time, it was a commercial disappointment, but it is her most well-known album today. Due to the album’s lack of success, there was pressure on Ohnuki to produce a hit. Unfortunately, her third album, Mignonne, wasn’t successful either, and it forced Ohnuki into a two year sabbatical. I think one of the best songs from her third album is “4:00AM.”
