Cormega is a rapper from Queensbridge, Queens who has enjoyed a successful independent career. He befriended Nas and their rapport led to a friendship both in and out of music. In 1996, Cormega joined the short-lived rap group, The Firm, which featured Nas, AZ, and Foxy Brown. Shortly after, things went left. Cormega and Nas had an extensive fall out; there was a dispute that included Steve Stoute, Nas, and Nature (Cormega’s replacement in The Firm). Later, Cormega’s album, The Testament, which was slated for release on Def Jam/Violator Records, was indefinitely shelved. In 2001, Cormega released his debut album, The Realness. It’s a great album, and it provides a lot of insight into what Cormega went through in the ’90s. One of my favorite songs is “Fallen Soldiers.”
