Piero Umiliani was a film composer from Florence, Italy. Umiliani’s film scores spanned across various genres like Spaghetti Westerns, Eurospy, Giallo, and softcore sex films. His incorporation of jazz, funk, and rock in his music was considered to be revolutionary at the time. Umiliani and some of his contemporaries like Riz Ortolani, Piero Picconi, and Armando Sciassia cultivated a new sound for soundtracks outside of traditional orchestra scores. To date, Umiliani has over 150 film score credits. One of my favorite Umiliani songs is “Nostalgia;” it was featured in the film La Ragazza Fuoristrada (1973).
