Cortex is a French band that was formed in 1974 by Alain Minon, Alain Gandolfi, and Jeff Huttner. One year later, after a two-day session, they released their debut album, Troupeau Bleu. The album features a combination of jazz, funk, and vocals from Mireille Dalbray, a relatively unknown singer who primarily sang for the band. I like the title song, “Troupeau Bleau” because it’s a balanced record that includes most of their primary sounds. I also think the evolution of the core composition, and the inclusion of the saxophone at the end is a dope touch.
