Bobby Hebb was a soul singer from Nashville, Tennessee. In 1960, he released his debut single, “Night Train to Memphis.” In 1963, Hebb wrote “Sunny;” the song that would ultimately change his life. According to Hebb, he wrote “Sunny” after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and the passing of his brother Harold. In many ways, the song was a coping mechanism that produced a great record. In 1966, “Sunny” was released, and it peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. To date, it’s his most successful song, and it led to a number of covers. One of the versions I like is James Brown’s rendition from 1969.
