Gigliola Cinquetti is a singer and TV presenter from Verona, Veneto, Italy. In 1964, at 16 years old, after winning the prestigious Sanremo Music Festival, Cinquetti became the first Italian to win the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song “Non Ho L’età,” composed by Nicola Salerno and Mario Panzeri, became an international success shortly after. In 1974, she found similar success with her song “Si.” It was the runner up at the Eurovison Song Contest, but it was a much bigger hit in the UK; the english version peaked at #8. One of my favorite songs by Cinquetti is “Un Momento Fa” (1977). This song is an example of her range beyond the competition stage.
