Novalis was a progressive rock and Krautrock band from Hamburg, Germany. The band’s namesake came from Novalis, a German poet and philosopher from the Early German Romanticism period. In 1973, the band released their debut album, Banished Bridge. On their debut album, they recorded in English. However, in 1975, at the suggestion of their new producer, Achim Reichel, they transitioned to only recording in German. In 1975, they released their self-titled album, Novalis, and in 1976, they released Sommerabend. These are two of their most popular albums, so it seems like the transition worked. Sommerabend was their most successful album, and I think “Wunderschätze” is one of the best songs.
