AZ is a rapper from Brooklyn, NY who enjoyed a solid run in the ’90s. Originally born in Bedstuy, Brooklyn, AZ grew up in East New York, Brooklyn. He started rhyming when he was a teenager, and he befriended a young Nas in the early ’90s. AZ’s career took off when he was featured on “Life’s A Bitch,” one of the classics from Nas’s seminal debut album, Illmatic (1994). Shortly after the release of Illmatic, AZ signed a deal with EMI Records. In 1995, AZ released his debut album, Doe or Die. The album was a critical and a commercial success; it sold over 1 million copies and peaked at #15 on the Billboard 200. My favorite song from the album is “Your World Don’t Stop;” the original version. Unfortunately, due to sample clearance issues, the original version of “Your World Don’t Stop” (which I’ve included below) didn’t make the final album.
