Ricky Allen was a blues singer from Nashville, Tennessee. He started singing in church choirs throughout Nashville before he moved to Chicago in 1958. In Chicago, he transitioned into the Blues scene. In 1961, he released his debut single, “From You,” on Age Records. Age Records was a subsidiary of songwriter and producer Mel London’s Chief Records, a Chicago-based blues label. Allen released the majority of his music on Age Records, and in 1963, he released, “Cut You A-Loose.” The song reached #20 on the Billboard R&B chart and it became the most successful song of his career.
