J. J. Barnes is a singer and songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. In the early ’60s, he released a number of singles on different labels. There were two singles that put him on a solid path to success, “Just One More Time,” released in 1963, on Mckay Records, and “Please Let Me In,” released in 1965, on Ric-Tic Records. These songs led to a brief stint at Motown as a singer and songwriter; however, none of his solo music was released. Then, in 1967, he recorded “Baby Please Come Back Home,” a soul track released on the Detroit-based label, Groovesville. This song reached #9 on the US Billboard R&B chart and it’s his most successful song to date. Barnes was a talented singer, and I feel like he deserved more.
