Source Material: Robert Knight – “Everlasting Love”

Robert Knight was a singer from Franklin, Tennessee who released a handful of singles in the ’60s and ’70s.  In 1967, he released his first single, “Everlasting Love,” on Rising Sons, a label owned by singer/songwriters Buzz Cason and Mac Gayden.  “Everlasting Love” became Robert Knight’s biggest hit in the United States and the UK.  It peaked at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and at #40 in the UK.  Unfortunately, one year later, Love Affair (a UK group) released a version of “Everlasting Love” that went #1 in the UK.

In 1974, after a successful reissuing of his 1968 song, “Love On a Mountain Top,” “Everlasting Love” climbed the UK charts once again (peaking at #19).  Only this time, Carl Carlton released his version of “Everlasting Love” in 1974.  Carlton’s version became the highest charting US release and the momentum impeded Knight’s success once again.  After listening to all three versions, I think Robert Knight’s original is the best.
