Tony Yayo is a rapper from South Jamaica, Queens who is a founding member of G-Unit. In the early 2000s, 50 Cent, along with Yayo and Llloyd Banks, released a slew of mixtapes after 50 Cent was blacklisted from the music industry. 50 Cent and G-Unit’s ascension through the mixtape circuit led to renewed opportunities when 50 Cent signed to Shady/Aftermath in 2002. This led to the creation of G-Unit records (in 2003), Yayo signing as a solo artist to G-Unit/Interscope, and his eventual debut album, Thoughts of a Predicate Felon (2005).
It took two years for Yayo’s album to be released because he was incarcerated during the inception of G-Unit Records. However, when he was released and his album came out, it was a highly anticipated success story. Thoughts of a Predicate Felon debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200 and his single, “So Seductive” Ft. 50 Cent became his most successful song. The album also featured “Curious,” “Pimpin’,” and “I Know You Don’t Love Me.” Produced by Studio 44, “I Know You Don’t Love Me” features a sample of Roberta Flack’s “Early Ev’ry Midnite.”
