Ohio Players are a funk band from Dayton, Ohio that enjoyed a successful career throughout the ’70s. They’re known for songs like, “Funky Worm,” “Fire,” and “Love Rollercoaster.” Their second album, Pain (1972), was their first album that charted and the first to be certified Gold. On this album, Ohio Players established a lot of the sound and style they became respected for throughout the ’70s. It was also the first album to feature a provocative woman on the cover (an Ohio Players staple). “Players Balling (Players Doin’ Their Own Thing),” the final song on Side One, is a funky and soulful cut.
