Source Material: The Universals – “New Generation”

The Universals were a funk/soul band from Daytona Beach, Florida who recorded in the early ’70s.  The group was comprised of Lindsey Morris (Vocals, Keyboard, & Arranger), Alex Morgan (Vocals & Guitar), Ralph Williams (Vocals, Flute, & Sax), Aaron Watson (Drums), and Ralph Sullivan (Bass Guitar).  The band only released one single in their short-lived career.   It was a 45 that featured, “The Way A Girl Should Be” on the A-Side and “New Generation” on the B-Side.  It was initially released on Expression Records and after running into some distribution problems, the vinyl was reissued on Tener Records.  Neither issuing was successful at the time, but as of today, there is a cult following for both versions.
