Sam Baker was a soul singer from Jackson, Mississippi that enjoyed a moderately successful career in the ’60s. The majority of his music was released on Sound Stage 7, a lesser-known record label based in Nashville, Tennessee. The label became known for its Rhythm and Blues and Soul releases when John Richbourg became the head A&R in 1965. The label’s biggest commercial success was Joe Simon, but Sam Baker had the second most records issued by the label at the time. Unfortunately, Sam Baker didn’t find the same commercial success as some of his contemporaries, but his deep cuts like, “It’s All Over (1969),” show he was an overlooked artist with immense potential.
