Lou Donaldson is a Jazz alto saxophonist from Badin, North Carolina. His career spanned over 40 years, starting in the early 1950s, on through the ’70s, and into the ’90s. Donaldson began to establish himself in the ’50s during the bebop era. In the late ’50s, his continued sonic shift towards rhythm and blues brought his music closer to Hard Bop. Then, in 1958, while incorporating these sounds on his album Blues Walk, his contributions to Soul Jazz grew stronger. As his music continued to evolve throughout the ’60s and ’70s, he played a significant role in connecting Hard Bop and Soul Jazz. “You’re Welcome, Stop on By” is an example of Donaldson’s Soul Jazz contributions.
