Source Material: Eddie Kendricks – “Intimate Friends”

Eddie Kendricks had two careers as an artist in the ’60s and ’70s.  Kendricks was one of the co-founders of The Temptations and one of their lead singers for eleven years.  But following a strained relationship with Motown and continued fall outs with bandmate, Otis Williams, Kendricks went solo in 1971.  His solo career wasn’t as promising as the career he enjoyed with The Temptations, but he did record some gems along the way.  In 1977, he released Slick, an album featuring one of those gems, “Intimate Friends.”  The song has since had an extended life of its own due to it’s extensive sampling in hip hop and contemporary R&B by Drake, Big Sean, and Alicia Keys.
