Sharon Forrester is a reggae and soul singer born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. On “Holly” you hear the Reggae influence and the impact of Black American soul music simultaneously. While this style and sound was unique, like many artists in the ’70s who didn’t find traditional mainstream success, Forrester spent the remainder of her career recording and performing sporadically. But it’s her self-titled album: Sharon (1974) where “Holly” and many other lesser-known grooves live on today.
